Fleas and ticks aren’t just annoying and inconvenient. They can also threaten the health and safety of your beloved pet. Fleas can introduce internal parasites, like tapeworms, and cause open wounds, flea bite dermatitis, and anemia. And ticks can cause devastating diseases like Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF).

As your Charlotte veterinarian, we offer multiple prevention and treatment options for fleas and ticks, including monthly topical medications and oral medications. We will help you determine which products are right for your pet.

While more common in dogs, both dogs and cats can get heartworm disease. Transmitted by the bite from a mosquito that has picked up the larvae from another infected animal, heartworms can cause several troubling symptoms in your pet. When left untreated, heartworm disease can also cause serious damage to your pet’s heart.

We perform heartworm testing to determine if your pet is infected. Once we have the results, we can start your pet on an appropriate treatment or preventive. Heartworm medication needs to be taken every month. While this medication is highly effective, though, there is still a chance that your pet could get the disease. For this reason, we recommend having your pet tested annually.
