Dr. Jenifer Richar

DVM/Practice Owner

Dr. Richar has worked as a general practitioner since 2020 while also taking on the roles of Lead Vet and Veterinary Chief of Staff for a small animal practice.

She fell in love with North Carolina during her externship at the ASPCA Spay and Neuter Clinic in Asheville. Immediately after completing her veterinary degree, she moved to Charlotte with her two foster-fail dogs, Jack and Peggy.

She has been working as a small animal general practitioner since and just recently took on the role of owner of Hickory Grove Animal Hospital. She looks forward to providing pets and clients with the same level of care and dedication as the previous Hickory Grove veterinarians have for the last 30-plus years.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, her significant other, and his two cats, Cobaka and Kitten. She also enjoys gardening, running, hiking, and traveling.

Dr. Sherry Huskey

DVM

Dr. Sherry Huskey is originally from Rutherfordton, NC. She grew up with a wide variety of pets (a squirrel monkey, cats, dogs, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits, cows, pigs, turtles, birds, and a horse) and decided on a career in veterinary medicine at age 6.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree from UNC-Charlotte and her DVM degree from the NC State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. From 1987 to 1989, she practiced in Montgomery County, NC, and at the same time owned and operated a hospital in Asheboro, NC.

Dr. Huskey returned to Charlotte in 1989 and managed a practice for several years. After the birth of her children, she worked as an associate at a local hospital.

She lives in Matthews with her two sons. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her sons.

Lynn Wingard

Practice Manager

Lynn Wingard brings more than 27 years of experience in the veterinary profession, including over 15 years in veterinary administration and leadership. She takes great pride in building lasting relationships with clients and helping pet owners feel informed, supported, and confident in their pets’ healthcare journey. Her leadership style emphasizes teamwork, communication, and a shared commitment to providing outstanding veterinary medicine.

Outside of work, Lynn enjoys spending time with her partner, Raymond, their three beloved cats—Cheddar, Baby Girl, and Mr. Gey—and her two adult children. Her lifelong love of animals and dedication to helping both pets and people continue to inspire her every day.

Veterinary Technician/Front Desk Receptionist

Kristal started her career at Hickory Grove Animal Hospital in 1997. She pursued her degree as a Certified Veterinary Technician, graduating from Gaston College in 2001.

On her time off, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, her cat, Lily, and Yorkiepoo, Ellie. She also enjoys attending her twin sons’ soccer matches.

Michelle

Front Desk Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant

Michelle started as a veterinary assistant in 1999 in Rolesville, NC. She moved to Charlotte after marrying her husband in 2002 and began working at Hickory Grove Animal Hospital.

When she is not working, Michelle enjoys going to dance with her daughter and to baseball games with her son. Her family shares their home with a miniature poodle named Jiff.

Veterinary Assistant

Yader is originally from Nicaragua and is another one of our bilingual staff members. He has been working in the veterinary field since 2019.

He truly enjoys working as a veterinary assistant and making a difference in the lives of every dog and cat that steps through our door. He has two cats, Lexa, with her bright white coat, and Axel, with his jet-black coat.

Veterinary Assistant

Hickory Grove Animal Hospital is pleased to introduce Aquemini, affectionately known as “NiNi,” as one of the newest members of our veterinary team.

Originally from Miami, Florida, NiNi brings five years of veterinary experience and a strong passion for animal care. She is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality support for both pets and their families, helping clients make informed decisions about their pets’ health and well-being.

NiNi’s warm personality, positive attitude, and commitment to exceptional patient care have made her a wonderful addition to our hospital. She is continually expanding her knowledge and skills within the veterinary profession and takes pride in helping every pet live a healthier, happier life.

Whether assisting with patient care or welcoming clients and their pets, NiNi is committed to creating a positive experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

We are excited to have NiNi as part of the Hickory Grove Animal Hospital family and look forward to the compassionate care she will continue to provide to our patients and clients.

Veterinary Assistant

Hickory Grove Animal Hospital is proud to introduce Issy, a valued member of our veterinary team whose passion for animal care and dedication to lifelong learning make her an integral part of our hospital.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Issy brings more than 20 years of experience in the animal care field. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care while building meaningful relationships with both pets and their families.

Issy is currently pursuing her Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) credential and is on track to graduate next year. She has a particular interest in animal anatomy and physiology and enjoys expanding her veterinary knowledge through continued education and research. Her enthusiasm for learning allows her to stay current with advancements in veterinary medicine and contribute to the exceptional care our patients receive.

Outside of the hospital, Issy enjoys spending time outdoors, including hiking, camping, and volunteering at a local horse farm with her partner. Her love for animals extends well beyond her professional role and is reflected in the care she provides every day.

At home, Issy shares her life with a unique and beloved group of pets, including Olive Oile, a river turtle; Lemon Meringue, a leopard tortoise; and Ambrose Marshellow (“The Bro”), a charismatic French Bulldog who keeps life entertaining.

Issy’s goal is to continue growing as a veterinary professional while providing every patient with the highest level of compassion, attention, and care. Her experience, dedication, and positive spirit make her an invaluable member of the Hickory Grove Animal Hospital family.
